Mom and I have decided to make Wednesday our adventure day with the kids. Side note, this week we didn’t make it out because the twins are super sick.

Last week, we decided to head out for some countryside apple picking.  I love the added bonus of fresh applesauce to hide away in the freezer for the Littlest.  I did a lot of searching to find out where we could go within a half hour of our house.  We live near White’s Ferry, so I was also hoping to find a place that included a quick ferry ride across the river.

We decided to take the ferry over to Homestead Farm in Poolesville, MD.  The ferry is $8 roundtrip and $5 one-way.  From Rt. 15, it took us almost exactly an half hour to get to the farm.  There is a McDonald’s along the way if you need a quick bite, and a very cute little town to explore if your Littles are up for it.  The farm is easy to find and there is plenty of parking.  We took the wagon and the click-n-go for the car seat.

When we arrived, we were greeted by an abundant farm stand, lots of farm animals and an absolutely gorgeous landscape.  They provide a bucket for you to use while you’re picking apples, but it doesn’t have handles or a strap.  You may want to grab one of their wagons on your way in.  Both the wagon and the stroller did just fine across the roads.  We went on a weekday, and I loved it because there were only a few other people there.  I could let the kids run free without worrying about who was around. We did have to walk a distance to get to the apple trees.  On the weekends, they provide a hayride that cuts down on the walking time, but there are bigger crowds.

We left the farm with around 30 lbs. of apples, a few zucchini and two bottles of water for about $50.00.  It was such a great way to spend the afternoon, and the kids loved it.  Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the farm or the trip over.
