We took an actual vacation, not a work trip, but two weeks of RnR with the fam. No hotel this time, just our little home away from home on wheels. Lake Gaston RV Campground has everything! The lake is stunning, and you can rent paddleboards, boats and more at lots of vendors nearby. We hit the pool in the morning and the lake in the afternoon. The kids had to soak up every second of sunshine.
We stayed in site 315. It’s a huge pull-thru site with water and electric. They’re working on sewer, but the campground offers honey wagon service three times a week for $10 a day. We’d never used a honey wagon before, but it was a pretty easy process. My husband had to make sure he was around when they came by though.
We had a gorgeous view of the lake from our site. As I mentioned, the length of the site was great. We had room for our 40′ fifth wheel, tow vehicle and minivan. The width of the site wasn’t so great though. We were very close to our neighbors and on an incline, so we didn’t spend much time at the site.
Every night we walked across the little bridge to the pavilion/store area. There is a great playground across from the store (next to the pool). We all enjoyed an ice cream together and watched the sunset.
My husband works while we’re on the road. Internet access and a quiet space are a luxury when we’re camping, but neither was an issue at this campground. He said it was the nicest work arrangement he’s found to date. The kids loved it when we walked up to the clubhouse to visit him. They had a ton of family-friendly DVDs and children’s books.
We’ve already added this fantastic campground to our list for this year’s camping season, and we can’t wait to go back. I want to rent a boat this time around, and we’ll definitely go back to the Sylvan Heights Bird Park. The kids had so much fun there.
