We had such a great day at the Big Bugs exhibition, and I shared our fun photos with all of you. Since then, I’ve been getting lots of questions about this fun exhibit, so I thought I’d answer all of them now. 

What is the exhibit all about?

David Rogers’ Big Bugs features tiny creatures carved in wood on a colossal scale. The museum’s seven-acre gardens will be home to a 10-foot-tall daddy long legs, an 18-foot-long praying mantis, and more enormous bugs. The sculptures are created by using various combinations of found or fallen trees, cut green saplings selectively harvested from the willow family, dry branches, and other forest material. 

How long is the exhibit in town?

June 23 – November 15, 2020

How much does it cost?

Fee includes indoor gallery admission: $15, $10 youth (13–18) /senior (60+), $5 ages 5–12, free to ages 4 & under, and free to MSV members.

Was it crowded?

We went on a weekday afternoon, and there were a few other families there. Overall, it was easy to social distance during our visit.

Are there bathrooms on-site?

Yes, there are public, indoor restrooms available for visitors.

Was the exhibit “safe”?

You can buy tickets at an outdoor gatehouse off the parking lot. They also have bottled water and ponchos available.

Is there anything to do nearby?

Yes! Shenandoah National Park and Dinosaur Land are less than a half hour away.
