Home for the Holidays: DIY Polaroid Memories Map

We spend a lot of time traveling across this beautiful country, but we always try to head home for the holiday season.  This year, we found the perfect way to capture and display our memorable moments.

Since the moment we unwrapped our Polaroid POP Instant Digital Camera, we’ve been snapping and printing our favorite family travel moments.  I can easily connect my smartphone to the Polaroid Pop app, and print photos straight from my phone. We’re able to bring all our family photos to life.  I love flipping through each snapshot with the kids while we reminisce about where we were and what we were doing.

This Christmas, I wanted to find a way to share all of those special moments with the friends and family that stopped by for a hot chocolate and a hug.  I found a huge, vintage map of the United States, and bought a box of those tiny red pushpins.  We all sat around the table and picked our favorite photos from all the states we visited this year.

Even our littlest traveler got involved in the fun.  We shared stories, laughed over funny memories, and carefully placed each Polaroid POP photo on the map.

Together, we picked just the right spot in our house so we could see all our memories each time we walked by, and we decorated the wall with a festive garland.  Next year, I think we’ll make a homemade garland with the kids.  They’ll love being a part of that fun too.

My favorite part of this DIY decorating project was finding the destination where we were in each photo.  I asked my daughter, “Do you remember the beautiful fall colors we saw in Stowe, VT?”  I giggled with my son and asked him, “Did you love throwing rocks into Lake Wallenpaupack in Hawley, PA?”  Each photograph reminded them of a memorable moment we shared as a family.

Of course, we had to snap one more photo of our DIY fun.

For years to come, I know we’ll look forward to unrolling that old map, reminiscing about our year full of adventures, and sharing our photos with the people we love the most.
