Visit Potomac Valley Audubon Cool Spring Preserve to enjoy this cool play area full of tree stumps, rope spider webs and climbing rocks. After your little ones play for a while, your crew can hike the trails and splash in the creek. We enjoyed our half-day trip out to West Virginia to check out this fun play area.

The natural play space is just behind the Visitor’s Center. Park in the lot, walk down the little hill and around to the right. I recommend getting there early because the playground is in the shade at that time of day. Around 11:30, it got pretty hot for all of us.

We enjoyed our lunch on the play area’s picnic table, then headed out on the trail. We hiked about half a mile on the well-marked and well-maintained trails before making it to a crystal clear, chilly creek. It is very muddy on the creek bank, so you may want to pack some extra clothes, just in case.

A few small areas were blocked off for a day camp. Otherwise, we had the whole area to ourselves. It is dog-friendly, but they ask you to keep your fur babies off the creek banks.

I highly recommend planning a day on this beautiful preserve. Your family will enjoy it!
