There are so many things to do in Pittsburgh, especially for families.  

Since we only had two days in the area, we really had to prioritize, and also plan another visit out very soon.  We’ve already made a list for the next time we visit.

When Visit Pittsburgh told us all about the family-friendly attractions in the area, we didn’t know where to start.  But, we knew the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh was a must for our family.  My kids love to touch everything and play with cool exhibits.

We loved seeing so many things here…

We spent most of our time on the first floor.  The kids were able to interact with “almost” living and definitely moving art.  They chased dancing lights across the floor, stumbled around in the tiled room, and giggled on the spinning chairs.

This is the coolest children’s museum we’ve ever visited.  It is so much fun for the whole family.  I loved watching the parents secretly trying out the exhibits.  You really can’t help it.  They are just so cool.

The museum’s commitment to the environment was front and center.  The entrance invites you into the building with its beautiful green space where fresh vegetables are picked all summer long.  Just inside the front door, Littles are welcomed into a busy space to create sculptures with recycled materials. Yes, we brought home cardboard sculptures held together by masking tape.  What can I say?  They loved it.

The second floor was perfect for my littlest.  She could play with the train tables, build block towers for her brother and sister to knock down, and toddle around the comfy bean bag chairs filling the reading area.  I also loved how there were invitations to read throughout the museum.  Comfy little corners filled with books that welcome you to pick a book and have a seat.

The third floor is all about water play.  Be sure to bring all your water gear (no sunscreen needed).  The rain wall was so neat that I wanted to run through it.  And, the water wheel was a gorgeous and fun piece of art to be experienced.

Across the room, there are bathrooms with changing areas and tables, so you’ll be able to head back out into the city with dry kiddos.

If you visit during mealtime, be sure to check out the café.  You are welcome to bring your own food, but they offer a nice selection of food for purchase.

Just in case you forget, they even have extra diapers and wipes stashed behind the desk.  How cool is that?
