We’re blessed to call beautiful Lookout Mountain home, and we plan to explore every trail we can. For now, we’ve found three great trails with epic views, a gorgeous waterfall and a sweet swimming hole. Skip the bustle of Chattanooga, and head up Lookout Mountain with your little ones. Pick a trail, and you’ll love what you find.
**I highly recommend downloading the Alltrails App. You can filter trails by difficulty and what you’re looking to explore.

Start with Glen Falls Trail
We loved this trail. About .40 of a mile, and you’ll find a fun rock scrambling spot with a small swimming hole and waterfall. We stopped and splashed in the water for about an hour. Just beyond that stop, you can climb around the waterfall and explore lots of fun parts of the trail. I highly recommend packing towels or a change of clothes.

Also, we stopped for a picnic too. Keep in mind that parking is very limited on the side of the road. You may need to park down the mountain and walk up to the trail.
Stop at Point Park
You’ll need to pay a fee or bring your Annual Parks Pass with you to get in, but the views are well worth the price. We stopped for tons of photos overlooking downtown Chattanooga and did some exploring down one of the small trails.
My kids liked running around the paved path and climbing the stairs of the on-site monument. There’s tons of military history here too. You could easily turn it into an educational experience or homeschool field trip day.
Climb down to Sunset Rock
OK, I wouldn’t call this one easy. It is a climb, but my five-year-old crushed it. In our experience, Sunset Rock has some of the best views around. But, you’ll need to hold little hands very tight. It is HIGH!
We hiked down for the view, and that was about it. There isn’t much else to do, but it is worth it if you just want a quick climb to a beautiful local spot.
