Yes! You Can Take Little Kids to Rock City

My mom and I took my three little ones to Rock City on Lookout Mountain. With a huge cliff with the view of seven states and a very long suspension bridge, I wasn’t sure if it was a good choice for our day trip. It was worth every single penny. This is one of the most beautiful views in the South. Add it to your Chattanooga, TN itinerary.

In addition to the epic views, my kids went nuts over Fairyland Caverns. Frieda Utermoehlen Carter, one of Rock City’s founders, had a love of European folklore and fairytales. Her husband, Garnet Carter, hired a sculptor from Atlanta named Jessie Sanders to create scenes from some of the world’s most beloved fairytales. The scenes were moved into Fairyland Caverns in 1947, and you can see them today, along with some of Rock City’s famous gnomes, as you meander through the cave.

We went during the off-season, but we can’t wait to go back and try the on-site café, as well as one of the seasonal family events. The natural beauty of Rock City made it worth it for us to buy an annual pass for the family. We’d cover the cost with two adult admissions. I felt perfectly safe with my kids the entire time. If you want to skip the heights, you can skip the suspension bridge. Otherwise, you’re good to go.

Your visit to Rock City will include a stroll along the 4,100-foot Enchanted Trail, where you’ll encounter incredible rock formations, caves, and beautiful flowers, along with a few other surprises. You’ll have a wonderful day together you won’t soon forget.
